Code Girls

Program Overview:

Code Girls ICT Clubs is WITU’s school-based STEM initiative that creates safe and supportive spaces for secondary school students, particularly girls, to develop practical digital skills, learn coding, and use technology to solve problems.

WITU has established and supported ICT clubs in 15 secondary schools across Uganda, working with students, teachers, and school leaders to strengthen digital learning. Students gain hands on experience with technology, build confidence, develop digital and coding skills, and explore future education and career pathways in STEM.

WITU also trains teachers to support the clubs and sustain digital learning within their schools. Our school-based technology initiatives have been supported through partnerships with organizations including Google, Theirworld, and Segal Family Foundation. Through our partnership with Theirworld, WITU has helped reach more than 3,000 young women across Uganda with ICT, coding, and digital literacy opportunities.

Through Code Girls ICT Clubs, WITU is helping girls move from being consumers of technology to creators, innovators, and problem solvers.
